Exploring Langkawi’s life filled mangroves by boat

Discover Langkawi’s mangroves with DiinaLangkawiFun, from bat-filled caves to eagle feeding and breathtaking wildlife encounters.

My mangrove adventure with DiinaLangkawiFun began with a thrilling speedboat ride to Whale’s Island—an island that perfectly resembles a whale. From there, we entered the mesmerizing Kilim Geoforest Park, cruising through mangroves that revealed a world of ancient trees, unique animals, and endless surprises.

One of our first stops was a bat cave—a dark and eerie passage buzzing with life. Walking through it felt like stepping into another world. This was followed by a serene stroll on a bridge that snaked through the mangroves. Along the way, we learned fascinating details about these ancient plants, some of which date back to the Devonian period. Crab-eating monkeys added a touch of mischief to our walk, always a delight to watch.

Luck was on our side that day, as we spotted a rare sea otter gliding through the waters. The mangroves were alive with activity: monitor lizards basking in the sun, playful monkeys swinging from the branches, and countless birds darting above us. And then came the highlight—eagle feeding. Our guide tossed chicken skins into the water, and almost instantly, majestic sea eagles circled above before diving to snatch their food from the surface. Watching these powerful birds in action was absolutely breathtaking.

Another stop on our tour was Crocodile Cave, a narrow passageway carved into the rocks that connects two mangrove waterways. At low tide, boats can pass through, but during our visit, the water level was too high. Still, the cave’s unique shape, resembling a crocodile, made it a wonder to admire. Langkawi has a charming habit of naming places after animals, though the creatures themselves aren’t always present. Fortunately, the Bat Cave lived up to its name, buzzing with hundreds of bats.
